Cross Country Events Reminder

Polite reminder if you are attending any of the Cross Country Events and are using the Club Tent for changing or keeping dry please can you ensure you take all your personal belongings when you leave. There are instances of clothing and other articles being left behind after the event. If you think you have misplaced an item it will always be collected and kept by either a Coach that was present or taken back to the Club Hut for collection.

Can you ensure that you take your rubbish home with you as well please 🙂

An opportunity for our Young Athletes – Young People’s Forum – Applications

Young People’s Forum Cohort 2

December 2021 saw the inaugural cohort of the Athletics Trust Scotland Young People’s Forum (ATS YPF) come together for the first time, and over the past two years, 17 inspirational young people from across the country have given their time to help shape athletics in Scotland. This forum aims to give young people a platform and voice in all aspects of the planning, development, and delivery of athletics in Scotland!

scottishathletics values and recognises the importance of providing opportunities for our young athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers to input into decisions around our sport, and how it can have a positive outcome for young people. As such, scottishathletics would like to invite young athletes, coaches, officials, and/or club volunteers to express an interest in joining scottishathletics Young People’s Forum.

We would like to engage up to 15 young people aged between 14 and 23 years of age to participate in the Young People’s Forum.

Do you have what it takes to be the voice for young people in athletics?

We would love to hear from you if you are:

  • Living in Scotland
  • Aged between 14 -23 (inclusive)
  • Are a member and/or volunteer within a scottishathletics affiliated club
  • Have been a member and/or volunteer within a scottishathletics affiliated club within the last two years
  • Passionate about athletics
  • Want to make a difference to young people in sport.

Desired skills and personal qualities:

  • Motivated
  • Enthusiastic
  • Good Communication skills
  • Empathy towards others
  • Open-minded & creative

The role will require a time commitment of a minimum 20-hours per-year which will include attendance and preparation for:

  • An induction
  • A minimum of four forum meetings a year, either virtual or face to face
  • Ad hoc virtual meetings as required
  • If agreed, meetings of any sub-groups or time-limited action groups
  • Occasional Partner events, representing scottishathletics.

Members will serve for an initial period of two years.

The Young People’s Forum will continue look at two areas:

  • Focus on retaining young people in athletics
  • Mental health in sport for young people

As well as other areas, identified by the new cohort.

This is a great opportunity to become:

  • An Ambassador;
  • An Advisor;
  • A Future Leader;

You will also be able to use your time and what you have learned towards the Duke of Edinburgh volunteer hours, profile for university applications and towards your CV.

Alternatively, you can submit a short video clip answering the following questions:

  1. Tell us about your experience(s) in athletics (no more than 300 words)
  2. Tell us what difference you want to make in athletics for young people. (no more than 300 words)
  3. Tell us why you want to be on the Young People’s Forum. (no more than 300 words)

Please include your name, age, email, contact number, your club, Local Authority area and role within your club. If you are under 18, please include permission from a parent or guardian.

The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 27th October 2023. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. 

Interviews will be held on 11th and 12th November.

Scottish Athletics Short Course XC Championships Saturday 4th November 2023 Lanark Racecourse (all athletes U15 upwards)

There has been lots of interest in this event through the Google form. Thank you to the athletes who have already entered themselves. scottishathletics are now looking to recruit the second cohort of young people for the ATS YPF. The aim of the forum is to give young people a platform and voice in all aspects of the planning, development, and delivery of athletics in Scotland!

East District XC League- Saturday 14th October at Kirkcaldy- athletes U11 upwards

Just a wee reminder that the first event in the East District League takes place on Saturday 14th October at Kirkcaldy.

Thank you to all athletes who have indicated your availability via Google form. For any other athletes who wish to run this is a turn up on the day event but if you can let us know in advance through the google form link below it helps team managers know who to look out for on the day.
