Joining Info

Falkirk Victoria Harriers train all year round and members compete in Track & Field plus Cross Country leagues, we also have a strong Road Running section where members compete in races from 5k up to Ultra Marathons. Currently we have around 250 members, with 140 of these being Juniors.

This page will provide basic info on how to get involved in athletics regardless of your age, ability or your preferred discipline. You may initially be signposted to our local partners such as Active Schools, Run Jump & Throw (RJT) or Jog Scotland, however each of these has a pathway to Falkirk Victoria Harriers (FVH) for those wishing competitive athletics.

Please note should you eventually join the club we expect our members to:

  • Train twice per week
  • Compete
  • The club is run by volunteers and we ask that members/parents kindly assist the club at least once per year.

Community Athletics Pathway (Pre school and ages 5 to 8)

Partners mentioned above work together to create a clear pathway by sharing resource and supporting each other’s activities. 

Pre-School: This is currently under discussion if this interests you please contact connor.martin@falkirk.gov.uk

Ages 5 to 8: Many schools will offer after school multi sports clubs or will be ble to direct you to the nearest RJT centre. FVH help to develop those that deliver these. The intention is to engage athletes and coaches at a young age and get them excited about the sport, feeding both into the pathway. Please contact connor.martin@falkirk.gov.uk

Community Athletics Pathway (Ages 9, 10 & 11)

Enquiries these ages  will be  placed in a group called  Falkirk Victoria Harriers at Run Jump Throw (FVH@RJT) This group is like a bridge into the club, athletes will be club members and have full rights on all club matters such as competition, social…….. . After further development by RJT coaches athletes will progress to FVH coaches. 

Request a trial for those aged 9,10 & 11

General Enquiries (Ages 12 to 17)

From here on we start to focus on your event, but continue with all round development as well. The sessions are all delivered by club coaches and other volunteers. When a club trial is offered it will be over a four week period to see if you enjoy the sport and your group, then we would normally offer membership. Groups train on many different nights but club nights are Tuesday and Thursday mainly at Grangemouth Stadium, FK3 0EE. Some groups do still train from our clubhouse next to Victoria Park, Thornhill Rd.

Ages 12 to 14:  If you don’t know which event you prefer you will be placed in a multi event training group to allow you to decide. 

Age 15 to 17This is usually direct to event specific coaching – jumps, throws, sprints…. unless you are still unsure.

General Enquiries (Ages 18 and over)

We have many Senior athletes (aged 18 to 35) and indeed Masters athletes (Aged 35+) they compete in all aspects of the sport covering Track and Field and Road Running Group ………

Our Roads group consists of a wide range of abilities and ages. It is suitable for those who wish to train for running distances of 5K up to full marathons. The coaching sessions are supervised by a level 3.coach. All athletes are welcome to come along and join. The times and venues of these structured sessions are listed here:

Typical sessions undertaken would be:  hill sessions, speed work (mile bursts, timed bursts), pyramids, tempo runs, negative splits, fartlek
