Tom Scott Memorial Race Winner & 10 Mile Road Champion.

Scott Stirling really has been the name on everyone’s lips over the past few weeks of intense road racing and the past thrilling months of XC.

Last week we all watched with anticipation the bittersweet moment Scott finished 2nd place at the Pulford 10k with a remarkable time of 28:44 narrowly missing out on European selection, as Scott says “if there’s a right way to fail, that was it”. No failures in our eyes – that was amazing.

Today, Sunday 30th March Scott lined up alongside over 300 road runners on the start line of the 61st Tom Scott Memorial Race at Strathclyde Park.

The Tom Scott Memorial Races are held in memory of the very talented runner Tom Scott who was 29 when he sadly lost his life in a motor traffic accident while travelling to a race. Since 1962 these races have been graced by many fine runners, Scottish Olympians, European Contenders & Commonwealth Gold & Silver Medalists. Law & District AAC are the hosts of this popular race.

Today in clear but windy conditions Scott swiftly took on the 10 mile course, flying over the finish line with a monumental chip time of 48:30 coming out on top and winning top prize of the absolutely tremendous Tom Scott Memorial Trophy while simultaneously gaining the title of Scottish Athletics 10 Mile Champion and the second fastest finish time ever in the 61 year history of the race.  Now that’s a successful day I would say.

Along side Scott is, as always, his marvellous coach & biggest cheerleader – John Pentecost, behind every great athlete is a wonderful coach, and I think if ANYONE cheered me as much as John does Scott, I might be winning races too.

Huge well done to Scott & John, dream team. We can’t wait to see where you end up next.

Schools International Athletic Board (SIAB)

CROSS-COUNTRY INTERNATIONAL SCOTLAND, ENGLAND, IRELAND, WALES.

VENUE CALENDAR PARK, FALKIRK, SATURDAY 22nd MARCH 12 noon.

This is an event held on annual basis and rotates around the four countries. There are a total of six races, under 15 girls & boys, under 17 girls & boys plus relays. Eight runners in each team with six to count for the team competition. There are individual awards for the first three athletes.

Added to this competition we have in recent years included two relay races with two girls and two boys at under 15 and the same for under 17.

This is a top quality competition we these young athletes are most of the best from the four nations involved, all qualified for their teams by way of the their Schools National Championships.

The races will be held almost completely within the area formerly used as golf course which makes the event very spectator friendly.

I would like to invite local people to come along and spectate if you have an interest in this sport and also if it’s new to you, the program takes approximately two hours, so still plenty of time to get to the football!

This event has major support from local athletics club Falkirk Victoria Harriers in setting the course, and we have THREE FVH athletes (more info to follow) in the Scottish team.

Successful Masters Weekend

It was a busy weekend of Masters running in Scotland, with the XC National Championship on Saturday and the 3000m indoors on Sunday.
Falkirk Vics had 6 Masters out running in the Scottish Athletics National Cross Country Masters Championships held in Dundee on Saturday. We took home a full set of 🥇 🥈 and 🥉from a hilly, traily, challenging course. Fiona Matheson was running in the 1st race of the day, over 6.4k and won gold in her age category, finishing in 27:34. Monica Anderson had a fine race as well. The 2nd race was over 8k and Grant Matheson won silver in his age group in 32:38, with Mike McQuaid taking bronze in 33:10. Strong showings also from Gary McKenna and Malcolm Findlayson.
24 hours later it was the Emirates for Fiona and Grant, and both returned with the same colour of medal as on Saturday. Up first race, Grant ran a 3000m track PB to win the 🥈 and Fiona, in a time that equated to 104% age grade took home 🥇.

CANCELLED – Devilla Forest Races 09/02/25

A message from Carnegie Harriers

We regret to inform you that the Carnegie Harriers Devilla 5K and 15K races, scheduled for 9th February, have been cancelled due to extensive damage in Devilla forest caused by Storm Eowyn. We have been in contact with Forestry and Land Scotland but due to the sheer volume of work required throughout their forests, they cannot guarantee that the trails would be cleared and safe in time for race day. The safety of our runners, volunteers, and supporters is our top priority, and this decision has not been made lightly.
