Masters Success in Belfast for our Good Morning runners!

It was a big day for the Good Morning Runners training group today. With 3 racing XC in Belfast in the British and Irish Masters XC international. This is the only event worldwide where Scottish Masters get to race against other nations in a Scottish vest.
We had a very successful day, coming home with a full set of medals plus a spare one!
Robert Donachie was part of the Gold medal winning team of M75-79. Provisional results suggest that this is the only team gold won by Scotland today.
Fiona Matheson won individual silver and she lead her team to the W60-64 silver medal. In the 3rd race of the day Coach Grant Matheson was 2nd counter as his team of M60-64 runners secured the bronze medal.

Club Champs Cross Country Criteria

please consider this when entering events to allow all to meet their Age Group criteria.

U11’s: There are the 3 East League meetings. In order to be considered you have to compete in at least 2 of the 3 races. Points are allocated as follows. One point for the 1st placed FVH finisher, Two points for the 2nd placed FVH finisher …………… and so on.

At the end of the season the points are added together for the best 2 meetings and the winner is the athlete with the lowest number of points. If there is a tie on points for 1st place the athlete with the most 1st FVH places wins. If there is still a tie the head to head record will then be used.

ALL OTHER AGE GROUPS: There are 3 East League meetings plus the East District and National Championship races. You have to compete in at least 3 of the 5 races. Points are allocated as above

At the end of the season the points are added together for the best 3 races and the winner is the athlete with the least number of points. If there is a tie for 1st place then, for those who are tied, the athlete with the lowest number of points (i.e. highest finishing position) in the National wins. This also applies for Silver and Bronze medals.

Trio Qualify at British & Irish Masters XC trial 2024

Saturday 12th October was an amazing day for Good Morning Runners as we had 3 (3!!!!) runners qualify for Scottish Vets to race against N.Ireland, Ireland, wales and England in Belfast on 16th November. The trials race was held at Tollcross Park.

Robert Donachie in his first ever XC race, and first race in excess of 5k, had a very strong and well paced run to grab a Scotland vest.

Fiona Matheson continues to show her class and also qualified, along with her husband

Grant. This couple continue to impress me with their consistent smooth performances.

I’m sure we all agree this was a remarkable day for a wee group of morning enthusiasts!

We can’t wait to hear all about your well earned trip to Belfast!
